Laptop Brand and Model: Acer Aspire 3640

Problem: This laptop came in with the following complaint:

USB Not Recognized (one of the USB gimmicks attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message).

Diagnosis, Cause and Remedy: Every time a USB is inserted into this laptop the following error would come out: Usb Not Recognized (one of the USB gimmicks attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message).

One cause of this problem is that the driver for the USB controller gets corrupted. The very initial thing I did was updating the driver for the USB controller. After updating the driver, the problem still exist. If the former method, cannot solved the error, you need to fix or reinstall the Windows Operating System because now and then the O. S. (Operating System) gets corrupted due to viruses or galore other reasons. When I finished repairing the O. S., I turned on the laptop once again and regrettably the problem didn’t gone away. Thinking that the corrupted scheme can not be restored by plainly repairing the Operating System, the second step I did was that I reformatted this laptop hoping it may be restore. After reformatting the laptop and installing the respective drivers for the peripheral devices, still no luck, because the error was not eliminated.

I told myself “this can’t be” commonly when you reformatted the Windows Operating System, all will be back to normal, but in this case it did not. I now suspect hardware problem on the laptop, So I decisive to disassemble the laptop and free the motherboard from all dust, as what I’ve said on my former articles, that the dust is likewise one factor which causes the motherboard electronic constituents to be shorted. Because when dust gets thick it will become a conductor.

After disassembling the laptop and taken out all the dust. I tested the voltage on the terminal of the USB port. The normal supply voltage for the USB port when it is working fine is 5v DC sufficient to power up USB devices. The voltage is just normal after I tested it, This problem is a little bit harder because I’ve already done assorted possible solutions that I commonly employed to solve this kind of problem. After doing all the former steps and still not fixed the problem, I stopped for awhile and further make an analyzation of what’s actually causes the problem.

Upon thinking, It came to my mind that what if the flow of current on the USB port that is generated by the supply voltage is already deteriorated. For your data even if the power supply voltage is just normal, say 5 volts DC, but the current (measured in amperes) is already deteriorated, still It can not supply sufficient power in order to make the USB gimmicks work. The final method I’ve made to solve this problem was that I applied an external USB hub 2.0 which is inserted from one of the laptop’s USB port. After installing the USB hub 2.0 and whenever I connect any USB devices, it already works perfectly fine and the USB Not Recognized problem was wholly eliminated.

Hope this article helped you get galore ideas with regards to solving USB Not Recognized problem in Windows.

5Excellent computer for the price!
By culaslucas
I just purchased this for my girlfriend and received it yesterday so I haven’t been competent to wholly put it through the paces.

That being said, I am completely satisfied so far. It came with an unhealthful amount of bloatware and the HDD was partitioned into 3 subdivisions for ‘recovery’ so I did a fresh install of Win7 and got rid of the BS partitions. I noticed it was much snappier after the fresh install. Acer didn’t have the wireless driver on the web site with the rest of the drivers but a google search lead me in the right direction.

The keyboard is great! A huge merchandising point was the built-in keypad. The only problem with this is when you are in normal typing position (ie. not using keypad), your hands will be on the far left of the computer so if you’re using it on your lap, it’s a little awkward because your hands are shifted to the left side of your body. It feels a bit unnatural. The exterior is aesthetically pleasing. Mouse click buttons were a little stiff toward the middle but are fine on the far left or right – no big deal.

I was competent to stream a 1080p video to my 42″ TV using the HDMI port and the computer didn’t struggle at all. We watched ZombieLand + another hour of just messing around on it all on battery.

Aside from the bloatware and the offset keyboard, I actually have no complaints therefore far. For the price, this is an awful deal!!

2Solid product with poor support
By remarque
Acer’s laptops are build solidly and offer good bang for your buck. Performance is good, the product is easy on the eyes and it does not fall detached two months after purchase.

Keep in mind notwithstanding that you will be disappointed if you ever necessitated help from Acer. Their call center is located in India, where the aid representatives take pride in turning even routine requests into a discouraging and hindering tedium. Acer does not include any media with it is machines, so be sure to budget 2 hours of your time to construct recovery and repair DVDs.

Likewise, be sure to write down the Windows OEM product key from the sticker on the back of your machine. You will need it if you have to restore the machine and Acer will not support you if the sticker become unreadable through each and everyday use. Otherwise, you will need to buy a merchandising copy of Windows though you have already remunerated for the OEM license. Acer will utterly not aid you and the license key is not printed in the warranty manual, it’s only on the sticker on the bottom of the machine.

Boo, Acer!
