Great little powerhouse for under $260

Was worried about this system due to reading a previous review that said it was not as listed. It is exactly as listed-N570 Dual-Core little hot rod. I have bought four in the last 3 months for friends and everywhere I take it I get stares and tons of questions. If you are trying to get something to do major multitasking (Websurfing, Skyping, Blogging, video uploading) all at the same time this is not for you. For the person who wants to type up stuff using Office, check email, surf the web, chat, etc… all in good measure then this is great! ASUS has the best netbooks on the planet and Amazon has the best prices!Be sure to get the all in one package (2GB RAM + Bag)-DONE

Outstanding, great size and cheap

I purchased this for $255, and dollar for dollar I don’t think a better value could be found. Note that this netbook comes with a dual-core processor whereas netbooks costing much more often come with only a single-core. We upgraded to 2GB of RAM (a whopping $15 additional) and the performance is fantastic. Definitely great for what we use it for, which is mostly web-browsing, e-mail and media browsing. But I believe it would easily handle a load much greater than what we are throwing at it.

BTW I purchased this for my domestic partner, who is not a sophisticated user. I am considered the “power-user” in this household, but I am thinking about buying another one of these to replace my desktop computer. It’s a really cheap alternative to a full-size laptop or a tower, and the performance is far better than what I get on the XP system I am now using.

We added an external USB optical drive, since netbooks do not have one built in. Note that Windows 7 Starter does not have the codecs that are required to view videos from DVDs, and Microsoft’s recommendation is to upgrade to Windows Home Premium. (Obviously, MS wants you to send them more money.) A quick Google search and we found free codecs that were easy to install and handled the job perfectly. We also found a free utility to change the Desktop wallpaper – something else Microsoft does not want to give you in the Starter edition.

We like the SD slot. It’s a nice place to store porn – so that we can easily pop it out if someone else wants to use the computer (whether for service, for family or whatever.) SD cards are cheap – $11 for 8G Class 10.

Asus is Aces

Our family started migrating towards netbooks about two years ago. Me first with my Asus 1500, then my kids from full sized notebooks to netbooks. My Asus has been flawless since purchase around two years ago. The extreme benefit over a netbook over notebook or desktop is that they run noticeably cooler increasing the speed and transparency exponentially.

One of my kids chose a Samsung netbook back in May ’11, and it developed problems under heavy use of media creation such as Windows Movie Maker, utilizing lots of video and images. Within the past month the stress and higher operating temperature caused the operating system to cease, and after trying to restore to factory conditions and obliterating that program through no fault of our own, I decided to again buy another Asus. That makes it three out of four for our family, and the Asus have been problem-free. Love them.
